Went on a mini-pub crawl around the delightful town of Barnsley this evening. Found a few decent places, Old No.7, Retro Bar and The Corner Pin. Hugely suprised though, in the first pub, I got asked for ID. I am 28. Fumbled around in my wallet for ages looking for my 'prove it' card and when I finally showed him, he commented, "You are older than me!" Last time I remember getting asked was at age 24, in a supermarket, when I purchased 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' remake. And the lady behind the counter said, "Are you sure you are 18? This film is a bit gruesome."

Na, I commented that I've been doing some facial exercises lately, he didn't seem that amused but he was busy tending bar. Part of me feels good in a way, but part of me feels embarrassed and alienated.

If it makes you feel any better, I was out with a group from work and I think I was the oldest one there, with one of the girl's from the office taking her brother along (who was only 17 at the time) and guess who was the only person to get asked for ID, pretty much everywhere. Guess who also doesn't drink and doesn't go out much so has never seen the point of getting any ID.

May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

Going bald at the age of 23 means I've always looked older than my age. I think the tide may be turning though. Now I am the proper age for baldiness my youthful spirit and boyish nature seems to be making people think of me as younger. If the trend continues I may pass for 17 when I'm in me seventies Smile

In 'the Once and Future King', Merlin was aging into the past like that so his study contained amongst other things in the general chaos...

'...Mandragora, mandrake.. a bunch of turkey feathers and goose quills, an astrolabe, twelve pairs of boots, three dozen rabbit wires, some ants nests between two glass plates, darning needles, four or five recorders,, a bottle of mastic varnish, the 14th edition of the encyclopedia Britannica (marred as it was by the sensationalism of the plates), a few fossils, bunsen burners, and a complete set of cigarette cards depicting wildfowl by Peter Scott...'
