Found this the other day and thought it was worth a laugh:-

This was my first car - it was great,. I think I paid 100 for it - it was all I could afford but it was transport. Occasionally exhaust fumes came up around the gearstick and I had to drive with the windows open. The logbook was hilarious and included instructions on how to make a picnic table out of the spare wheel. There was also a windscreeen washer - the switch for the wipers was like a rubber bulb, when you squeezed it you got a jet of water. - Brilliant!

I set off to Glastonbury in it (from Preston) with three mates in 1980. We had a sign in the back window that read 'Glastonbury or bust'. Unfortunately - it was 'bust' as we got about 50 miles and had to turn back as one of the valves burnt out. We limped back up the motorway at about 5 mile an hour on the hard shoulder.

Ahh! happy days Very Happy

Picnic table out of the spare wheel? That's priceless. They should include more stuff like that nowadays.

Maybe you should purchase a camper van so that we could ride down to The Green Man festival?

I keep laughing at the thought of it - can you imagine 4 hippies in there with all the camping equipment and dozens and dozens of cans of beer, crawling along with clouds of blue smoke trailing behind. Can't believe we didn't get stopped.

So, did you have to put your feet through the floor like Fred Flintstone?

Actually it was built like a tank. There were some floods I had to go through once to get to work and it sailed through like a little motor boat leaving much more desirable vehicles standing and me with a big smug smile on my face. I'd love one to drive about in now - have to get on ebay.

I'm very tempted... Only thing is I'm really crap with mechanics and I don't think Marcia or the neighbours would take kindly to it sitting on the drive in that state for years. If I had a big garage and a bit more cash I might...Hmmm Confused

Thing is though, do the pleasures of our past ever live up to their memories when we revisit them?

Some of the old Marvel superhero comics I read when I was young have been republished. I've bought a whole heap of 'em only to be shocked by just how humungously awful they are (and always were).

Ah, sweet innocence lost Sad
