So they've unveiled the logo for the London Olympics.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/6719805.stm
The designers (yep, more than one person worked on it) were given £400,000 and over 12 months to come up with a design and I've got to admit I hate it.
Quote the Daily Express by Stephen Bayley, founder of the Design Museum: "It's a puerile mess and a commercial scandal. It was a wonderful chance to do something magnificent and it was a waste of resources." |

There are three different colour variations on the official site.
The colours don't bother me as much as the fact that it just seems to have no focal point for a start, or it does, the actual Olympic logo but it seems to be in an odd place.
I also didn't even realise it said 2012 until I read that's what it's supposed to be. |

...that's the first time I've seen it - I heard it's got panned and I'm not surprised. If it was just the bit with the rings in it would be better but the attempt at numerals is dreadful. I don't mind the pink.
I ask you £400.000 - wonder what the next client who asks me for a logo would say if I quoted that. (falls off his chair in exasperation)
Mind you the person who designed it probably has to put up with living in London and have a cockney accent so maybe they should be payed more as compensation. _________________ http://www.rcrux.com/

Lol, until I read that all I could see was someone looking through one of those seaside telescopes.. |

It's not bad though I must admit I wasn't too keen at first....
I think it has become fashionable to knock it, I expect the price is typical of many other similar scale projects and probably includes more than just the design of a logo. Just seems a lot of money to the average person.
As usual the 'my 6 year old son could do better brigade' make an appearance as do the amateur designers who knock up alternatives with mediocre and predictable results.....
Fairly apathetic to the whole Olympics thing anyway though....... |
